Jess Durfee, chair of San Diego's Democratic Party, accuses Carl DeMaio of not polling fair.
In a formal complaint to the San Diego Ethics Commission, Durfee says the mayoral candidate and his campaign advisors refused to name who was behind a March opinion poll touted in a March 14 announcement from Republican chair Tony Krvaric.
Durfee says the DeMaio camp coordinated with a third-party in order to avoid campaign finance laws. The law prohibits outside parties from paying for "independent expenditures." And, according to Durfee, having an unnamed party pay for opinion polls is an example of that.
